Malta House of Care Receives Grant from Ion Bank Foundation

We are thrilled to announce that the Ion Bank Foundation has generously awarded Malta House of Care a grant to support our mission of advancing access to healthcare for uninsured adults in the Greater Hartford Region. This grant will significantly enhance our ability to provide essential medical services to those in need.

The Ion Bank Foundation, established in 1998, is committed to reinvesting in the community. Since inception, the Foundation has contributed over $12.4 million to various organizations, supporting health, education, economic development, human and social services, and the arts. Their Annual Community Awards Program is a key initiative that allows Ion Bank customers to vote for their favorite non-profit organization, resulting in a $25 donation for every vote.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Ion Bank Foundation for their support and look forward to sharing updates and progress on this impactful initiative. Stay tuned for more details and photos on how this grant is making a difference in our community.

Thank you, Ion Bank Foundation, for helping us continue our vital work!

Malta receives CVS Health Foundation Grant

We are thrilled to announce that Malta House of Care has been awarded a generous grant from the CVS Health Foundation 2023 Hometown Fund! This grant is part of $2 million in grant from the CVS Health Foundation to nonprofit organizations in Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. This partnership aims to advance health equity, provide equitable access to care, and address health-related social needs within our communities. The CVS Health Foundation concentrated its investments in organizations like Malta that are working to increase access to health care services for underinsured or uninsured populations and improving health outcomes for individuals with chronic diseases – with a heightened focus on heart disease and mental health.

Back in April, CVS Aetna employees dedicated their time to assemble personal care bags filled with full-size essential items for our patients. We received approximately 300 of these wonderful bags, which were distributed to all patients. We captured some heartwarming moments of a few of our patients receiving these bags, highlighting the immediate impact of this initiative.

Here are some key highlights of this partnership:

  • Grant Award: Malta House of Care is one of 18 organizations in CT selected to receive a grant from the CVS Health Foundation 2023 Hometown Fund.
  • Impact: The grant will support our mission to advance health equity and provide equitable access to care!
  • Personal Care Bags: CVS Aetna employees assembled 300 goodie bags filled with essential items, which were distributed to all of Malta’s patients.
  • Community Engagement: CVS Health Foundation’s involvement extends to engaging with our community and understanding our needs better, as evidenced by their active participation and visits.

“When people have access to consistent health care and are equipped with the supporting services like affordable housing and healthy food, they are better positioned to improve their health,” said Sheryl Burke, senior vice president of corporate social responsibility and chief sustainability officer, CVS Health. “Our Hometown Fund grantees selected this year serve as examples of the ongoing work that is the focus of our philanthropic programs.”

The CVS Health Foundation Hometown Fund was created in 2022 to support CVS Health’s neighbors and local communities who are working toward improving health outcomes locally. For more information about the Hometown Fund and to see a list of all the grant recipients, click here.

We are incredibly grateful for the support from CVS Health and look forward to continuing our work together to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you!

Avangrid Foundation and CT Natural Gas Fuel Malta House of Care’s Diabetes Initiative

The Malta House of Care expresses profound gratitude to the Avangrid Foundation, in partnership with CT Natural Gas, for their impactful grant providing 850 A1c test kits. These kits are pivotal for monitoring blood sugar levels in both new and existing patients, aiding in the early identification of diabetic and prediabetic markers.

According to CDC research, 1 in 10 adults in America has diabetes, and astonishingly, 1 in 5 are unaware of their condition. Diabetes accounts for a substantial portion of healthcare spending in the U.S. The Avangrid Foundation grant equips Malta House of Care with vital resources to detect, monitor, and manage diabetes effectively and tools to intervene early and create personalized treatment plans to track our patient progress effectively.

This partnership reflects a shared commitment to enhancing community health. Malta House of Care continues to stand as a beacon of accessible healthcare, with the support of organizations like the Avangrid Foundation and CT Natural Gas. Together, they are championing health equity and creating pathways to healthier futures for individuals facing diabetes.
