At Malta House of Care, we provide free, high-quality primary healthcare to uninsured adults in Greater Hartford. Our dedicated team of medical professionals, volunteers, and donors work together to serve as a trusted medical home—offering compassionate, comprehensive care to those who need it most.
Since all services are free, Malta relies on the generosity of donors to support its approximately $1.65 million annual budget.
The Critical Need for Free Healthcare in Greater Hartford
Too many must choose between healthcare and basic needs. Many uninsured adults delay medical care because they struggle to afford food, housing, childcare.
Lack of insurance is a major barrier. 10% of Greater Hartford adults (ages 18-64) are uninsured – 21% in Hartford alone.
Working, and uninsured. Many of our patients work full-time and lack employer-sponsored insurance and cannot afford private coverage.
A city facing financial strain. The median household income in Hartford is just $37,477, far below $83,572 in the state of CT.
Housing costs take priority over health. 54% of Hartford residents are cost-burdened, spending 30% or more of their income on housing, leaving little for medical expenses.
