Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center
In 1996, when the idea of providing free health care to the uninsured of the Greater Hartford Area was being formulated, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center stepped up and offered us the use of their mobile medical van. For the next three years, thousands of patients were provided with free primary medical care on that vehicle. MHC also partners with Saint Francis for the provision of diagnostic blood and radiological testing. Many of our volunteer physicians and nurses are members of the Saint Francis family. We are most grateful for their most generous continued support!
Operations for our Asylum Hill site have been funded through generous grants from the Aetna Foundation. Physicians and other volunteers from Aetna also provide for patient care. We are most grateful for their continued support!
The reception area of our Asylum Hill site needed some serious “TLC”. We enlisted help from a group of CIGNA employees, backed by a generous CIGNA grant for refurbishment. They removed old carpeting, plastered and repainted the room weekends and evenings using supplies donated by Home Depot of West Hartford and Bloomfield. The good folks at Solidus then provided the installation of new carpeting…and as you can see, the results are marvelous!
Saint Joseph College
Nursing faculty from Saint Joseph College volunteered to provide continuing clinical education to MHC volunteer nurses including the use of their nursing lab. This effort was initiated by MHC volunteer and recent SJC APRN graduate, Sharon Saunders.
Education sessions were conducted by Pamela Aselton, APRN Professor of Nursing and Amber Irimia, SJC Masters Program student. MHC volunteer Barbara Maron was one of the MHC volunteers who participated in the session (left) on asthma diagnosis and treatment. Many thanks to Sister Beth Fischer, SJC Coordinator, Community Outreach and Partnerships and everyone at SJC for their ongoing support of our mission of care.
